Your wedding favors will form an integral part of your wedding celebrations. Traditionally they are given as tokens of thanks from the bride and groom to their guests to thank them for joining them on such a special day. For the modern bride they also form an important finishing touch to their reception tables and are the culmination of months of wedding planning.Coordinating your wedding favors with your wedding relies on three things:
1.they match your wedding style and theme (if having one)
2.they match your wedding colors
3.they say something about your own style and personality
Wedding favors need to match your wedding style and theme because otherwise your guests maybe a little confused about how they fit in with your wedding scheme. Edible wedding favors are the perfect choice for coordinating with any style of wedding, although you will need to think about whether your wedding is formal or informal first.
For a formal wedding, you should think traditional. Almonds are the most traditional type of wedding favor with their roots in the 13th century, but they are not to everyone’s taste, so look for chocolate versions instead. Cookies and mini cakes also work for a formal wedding. For an informal wedding, you could look at candies, mints, nuts and fun cookies and cupcakes.
If your favors match your wedding style and theme, then they need to match your wedding colors also. Having a wedding scheme of chocolate brown and aqua, with bright pink wedding favors would look a little odd and they would stick out like sore thumbs on your tables!
If you cannot find favors in your chosen colors then choose a neutral color such as white, cream or ivory and coordinate your packaging with your wedding colors instead. This goes for packaging too as favor boxes may not be available in some more unusual colors. Instead go for white or ivory and use colored ribbons and thank you tags to coordinate them.
Coordinating your wedding favors to your own style and personality is perhaps the one area many brides become stuck on. Personally I like to think of it as choosing favors which you like and which you would be happy to receive. Essentially your wedding favors need to be something which when your guests unwrap them, they say ‘oh yes, that is so her’! Your wedding should be full of things which say everything about you and your groom, so coordinating your wedding favors in the same way should not be too difficult.
